Advice to Personal Trainers

Late last year the creators of “Generation Iron” released C.T. Fletcher’s untold story. Six time World Champion Powerlifter, and one of the most influential and motivational personal trainers, the film “My Magnificent Obsession” shows how Fletcher uses the power of motivation to change people’s lives through personal training.

At the Advanced Training Institute in Las Vegas, we train personal trainers not only in anatomy & physiology; kinesiology; biomechanics; exercise psychology; strength and conditioning; corrective exercise techniques; supplementation, and business & sales, but also in what it takes to get clients motivated.

We definitely recommend our personal fitness trainer students watch the film! It boasts an 8.3 review score on popular movie site IMDb and is available through iTunes.

We also found this awesome video full of advice on personal training from C.T. Fletcher’s training partner Mike Rashid.

In this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-p38-hg5s0 Mike Rashid shares with viewers his journey to becoming a successful personal trainer.

Step 1: He got started by becoming NASM Certified.

Step 2: He joined a corporate gym at first to master the basics, including how to sell training.

Step 3: He accepted any and all clients he could get.

Step 4: He went independent, but only after building his confidence and clientele as a trainer.

Step 5: He kept learning, even after his success. He encourages trainers to continue to acquire new certifications and stay up to date on training techniques.

So what did we take from this video? Firstly, we applaud Rashid for acknowledging what we already knew and that’s that  “NASM is probably one of the most recognized certifications.” At ATI our curriculum is designed to prepare students for NASM certification exams. While there are other certifying bodies, NASM is the most recognized, and therefore most likely to get people hired!

Another thing we really like about this video is Rashid’s passion for his job. He says “Personal training is a very inspiring job” and that “Helping people change their lives, there’s nothing better than that.” Like many of our students already studying to become personal fitness trainers know, Rashid says “Exercise helps with your mental health as well as your physical health.” He totally gets why you want to become a personal trainer, right?

Studying to become a personal fitness trainer at the Advanced Training Institute is an important first step in launching your career, but as C.T. Fletcher and Mike Rashid demonstrate, success depends on more than studying to become certified. Success requires personal motivation and the ability to motivate others, and we hope this post has given our PT students exactly that!
